History
Before Adam’s Mind (Toronto), there was Adam’s Mind (London Ontario). In late 2011, Ronald wrote his first 4 ska songs and decided to start a ska band in London Ontario where he was going to University. He recruited Jordan Bisanz (guitar), Brian McDonagh (Bass) , Leah Brander (Back-up Vocals) and Matthew Bacon (Tenor Sax). Brian introduced Greg Kerr (drums) to complete the line up. The London line-up played the earliest songs written by Ronald like: God Backwards, My Friend however they also played Planet Smashers and Slacker Covers. The band had just gotten ready to play shows when something happened…
Ronald left Adam’s Mind (London) in April of 2012 because he moved back to Toronto. Adam’s Mind (London) decided to continue without Ronald and are now writing their own material with Leah taking over lead vocals. With Ronald gone and the former Adam’s Mind composing completely new music, the band renamed themselves Blame It On Brian and are now playing shows in the London Ontario Area.
When Ronald realized how much he loved Toronto and wanted to stay, he decided to recruit a permanent band. From May 2012 to October 2012, he was finished school for good, unemployed, and had no responsibilities (even his meals were prepared by Christina Poon). He wrote 30 more songs, auditioned over 20 musicians, and chose the best 3 to start up Toronto’s Adam’s Mind.
Erik Linquest (drums/vocals) – Joined May 2012
Daniel May Gerr (bass) – Joined July 2012
Ian (Trombone) – Joined September 2012
Erik was one of the first Musicians Ronald auditioned and was recruited on the spot because of his amazing ska rhythms and ability to play out of time while being on time! May 2012 to July 2012 was a Dark period for Adams Mind, with Ronald and Erik meeting many musicians who could not commit or play the songs, Ronald posted on his Toronto Ska Community Facebook group “Complete Listing of Ska Shows” to find Daniel (Also in Daniel Mager Band) in July. The three began practicing until Ian (Ex. Frankie Foo + SKAFACE) contacted Ronald on Kijiji in October to start the horn section.
Kasey Dean Sikora – Joined December 2012
Alexandre Fecteau – Joined April 2013
Adam’s Mind practiced hard as a 4 piece and were finally ready to start playing shows. In November 2012 Adam’s Mind played their first show opening for Frankie Foo and the Yo Yo Smugglers at Grossman’s Tavern, the band met trumpeter Kasey Sikora who was in the audience. While Kasey was away on his Euro-Trip in June – August 2013 Ryan Mckellar (Alto Saxophone) filled in for over 10 shows. In May 2013 Alexandre Fecteau from The Planet Smashers contacted Ronald when he was moving to Toronto because he wanted to jam with a local Toronto ska band. Alex’s ability to solve and create complex horn arrangements will soon make us tighter than ever.
Oh and we have plans to take over the world….
